A few weeks ago my team at EDF Energy and our excellent agency partners quietly reached a major milestone in our Digital program for the year. With no fanfare, as befits true disruptive events, we switched on what I believe is the best eCommerce site in the Utility sector in the UK.
The site sports a fresh, contemporary design prominently featuring Zingy, our brand character. The product range is clearly and comprehensively displayed, prioritising customer benefits. The secure signup process is a joy to use and help is never far away thanks to live chat.
Behind the scenes, a new standards-based Web platform powers the site rendering content dynamically at breakneck speed, while web APIs are used to connect to complex business functionality and secure data stores. All front end presentational code is up to date and accessible, while responsive design techniques ensure the site renders well in mobiles as well as computers. An Agile development approach ensures the site is constantly updated and improved based on customer input and performance data.
This is the first visible end-to-end project I can talk about, a great improvement on the previous site and something for the competition to look at and think about. What do YOU think? Let me know in the comments!
